…ought Russian state assets for a fraction of the price, and they weren’t interested in free markets. they wanted the state-owned monopoly. When conservative Americans talk about “privatization” they’re talking about selling off state own monopolies at fire sale prices. When neoliberal foreign policy wonks talk about “democracy”, I don’t think they’re talking about “freedom”, either.
