Ahead of The Coronation of King Charles III, Some Scots are Making Their Views Heard On The Monarchy

The air is thick with anticipation.

London is gearing up to host the coronation of the new King and defender of the faith, with the Royal bunting starting to take over much of central London. And given that the last time this took place was nearly 70 years ago, it’s only natural that the excitement has gone up a few notches.

But not everyone is in a celebratory mood.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland remains as profoundly sectarian as ever.

To any American reading this, sectarianism may sound somewhat strange, given the extraordinary stranglehold that the evangelical Pentecostalism has on your polity but the Protestant hatred of Catholics on this side of the pond has always been there.

And this hatred is much more pronounced in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The nation which is famous for producing Sean Connery and Brian Cox from succession, has two dominant soccer teams in the same city — Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic.
