An Open Letter To Tony Stubblebine

We need clear answers.

Dear Tony Stubblebine,

When Ev Williams said that he was resigning months ago, I was among those who expressed grave concern.

Contrary to what happened at Twitter where he was out-maneuvered by Jack Dorsey and the venture capitalists who had funded the project, Ev was leaving on his own volition.

Why would our protagonist leave at such a crucial stage? Was he privy to things that we had no clue about? Has the revenue sources completely dried up?

These questions and many more dominated our mental space for a minute.

Given the consummate professional that you are, you sought to assuage our fears by setting your plans in clear language.

And we all exhaled.

No sooner had we been placated by the new leadership than a number of people were let go by Medium establishment.

However you choose to spin things, it sent a message to the wider audience that all wasn’t well. That some sort of hurricane was on the horizon.

Why?

People gravitate to this space for the financial opportunities that it provides. And if they feel that it is all starting to dry up, they will simply pack up and head elsewhere.

First was Tom Kuegler.

He wrote an incoherent piece about the obsession of the gatekeepers with women and minorities.
