Are Finland and Sweden at Risk of Being Nuked By Russia?

Yet another issue to mull over.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has inadvertently led to unanimity from Europe’s first and second tier nation states. We have seen France, Germany, Poland and the Brexit addled United Kingdom demonstrate a unity of purpose unseen for the very longest time.

What the Ukrainian invasion has also brought about is a clarity from EU and non-EU members as to which side to lean on at this fraught moment in European history.

And by this I am referring to Finland and Sweden’s application to become part of NATO.

Chunks of Finland, for those who don’t know their history, used to be part of the Russian federation. This all changed in the aftermath of the Russian revolution in 1917.

Apart from the legendary music group — ABBA — the furniture company, Ikea and to a much lesser degree, the ever reliable Volvo car, Sweden is best known for its neutrality on global affairs.

This neutrality served it quite well, when its Scandinavian neighbours — Norway and Denmark — were being run over by the Nazis in the 1940s. Even though some will dispute, with substantial merit that the Kingdom of Sweden wasn’t as neutral as we all thought, since it found a way to supply the Germans with the much needed raw materials to…
