Are The Criticisms Leveled At Medium, Gratuitously Harsh or Well Deserved?

My take on those whinging about money and threatening to leave

There’s been quite a bit of fuss from leading writers on this page about their numbers going down.

There’s been a number of articles written about Medium writers leaving the space to operate elsewhere, not least because their once fat earnings declined precipitously and their perceived bias of the algorithms.

And then I read an article from a writer whom I deem to be the “conscience of this space” not only complaining about the same thing but also eviscerating everything about the recently concluded writers challenge.

These somewhat embittered posts from these established writers all point to one thing: Money.

To the uninitiated and new players working in this space, it has always been about money; who gets what and how much they are getting.

And there was a time when Medium did nothing but print money

I remember back in 2017 and 2018, when I had no confidence that I could write anything read by hundreds never mind thousands of people, I used to read articles by the marquee writers here boasting about the sums of money they earned.
