The title of this article is taken from the song by the Afrobeat legend — Fela Anikulapo-Kuti back in the 1980s.
The song was formed by his personal experiences and the geopolitical issues of the 1980s.
Unlike his contemporaries in the African music space, our protagonist stood out like a sore thumb: a musician who was committed to fighting for the common man and one who had no problems calling out the corruption of the military dictators and their minions in the public sphere.
And for his efforts, he was imprisoned a great number of times and his mother was killed by forces acting on the orders of the junta in the late 1970s.
Back then, the preeminent issue was apartheid South Africa and the injustices to which Africans were subjected in their homeland.
That there was a space on the African soil in which the white minority wielded all the power and the Black majority had no political rights was a major sore point.
