A few days ago, it was reported that Boris Johnson would be standing down as a member of parliament with immediate effect.

And with official confirmation from the man himself, the curtain is being drawn on one of the great careers in British political history.

I mean how else should we appraise one of the finest politicians Britain has ever produced?

Please hear me out.

The sovereignty of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is something which every premier has grappled with in the post- war era and no other player has sought to address this better than Boris Johnson.

The likes of Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan, Harold Wilson, Ted Heath, James Callaghan and even Margaret Thatcher failed miserably to address this profoundly complex issue of Britain’s control over its own affairs.

And this above all else is what matters to every day Brits: we are an Island race and extremely proud of this salient fact.
