Bregret Not Brexit Is The New Buzz Word In The United Kingdom

No other word captures the public mood right now…

Nothing encapsulates the view in the country than the image by Jannes Van Den Wouwer via Unsplash

Well over a year ago, I wrote an article about buyer’s remorse and its effects on public life in Britain.

In the post, I wrote about a by election which took place in a very safe Tory constituency which decided that it had had enough of the Conservatives and elected to go for the opposition party.

I must confess that I might have jumped the gun.

However bad 2021 was, it was no where near as bad as 2022.

And this is evinced by everything that’s taken place in the last 358 days.

In this extraordinary year, we have produced four chancellors of the exchequer and three prime ministers. Most Brits and foreign observers would be forgiven for thinking that the country which gave the world afternoon tea, the English language, James Bond and Saville Row had lost its way and become Argentina circa 2001.

And a year on from my post, Brexit is starting to become a bit passé.

Why?

Regardless of wherever you go in the United Kingdom, the view is one of profound realization at its grand folly in the taking the step to breakaway from the European Union.
