Brexit Has Been The Greatest Undoing of The Conservative Party and The United Kingdom

And the decimation of the Tories at the next elections is inevitable.
The Conservative and Unionist party is the most successful political organization in the history of western democracy.
You think of some of the titanic figures in British political history —William Pitt Sr and Jr, Robert Peel, Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Salisbury, Palmerston, Austen Chamberlain, Winston Churchill, Harold Macmillan and not forgetting the hugely divisive and revolutionary Margaret Thatcher were all Conservatives.
Pragmatism is the organizing principle and the main political philosophy of the Tories.
This thinking meant that it knew exactly when to drop unpopular causes and when to embrace popular ones and it was rewarded by the electorate for much of the 19th and 20th centuries.
But so much has changed in the United Kingdom.
In the last 13 years, we have seen the radical realignment of British politics; some will say the most extraordinary for well over 200 years.
First was the reinstatement of the Tories to power after thirteen years in the wilderness by way of a coalition government with the Liberals in 2010 and subsequently by the defenestration of labour by the Scottish nationalists in north of the border at the 2015 general elections, which also saw the Conservatives winning a full majority, which enabled them to govern as they pleased.
This latitude which the Tories hadn’t enjoyed for well over a generation would lead to the greatest upheaval that the United Kingdom has ever seen: Brexit.
David Cameron, who had promised a referendum to the right of his party on the fractious subject of Europe, to shore up his position, had no idea of the carnage that his decision would unleash on the wider country.
And it is no exaggeration to state that Cameron’s carnage has engulfed every facet of life in the UK.
Once before, we had unfettered access to labour from Eastern Europe, our living standards were the among the highest on the continent and life was very good, but our departure from Europe has all but destroyed the United Kingdom as we know it.
