Contrary to nonsense spouted by historians, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland always had its sights set on running the world.

The English, who are (still) the dominant tribe, had worked out that it needed full control of not only its borders but also those of its neighbours and this thinking was responsible for the wars and policies which subjugated the Irish, Welsh and the Scottish, of which the end result was the union.

Once this strategic and economic bloc was in place, the business of catching up with the market leaders of imperialism —Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands — could start in earnest.

The thirteen colonies which formed the United States of America was already in play and a certain degree of wheeling and dealing with the Dutch gave the English, the territory known as New York in exchange for Surinam.

India was in the hands of the private capital class and this special class had royal assent to act as sovereign on a territory, thousands of miles away from home.

And while all this was happening, the business of enslaving and transporting Africans…
