Is the next global crisis in the offing?

Silicon Valley has never been a model of ethical behaviour, despite the grandiloquent words to the contrary.

When you think of this geographical location, the following organizations come to mind: Google, Apple, Facebook, Visa, Chevron and Wells Fargo and it is worth pointing out that market capitalization of these players run into the trillions of dollars — the GDP of Britain, Italy and Africa combined.

In an industry, which has presided over some of the worst ethical infractions that the world has ever known, the founder of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes was convicted of fraud, a few days ago.

But this was a script no one wrote or foresaw.

Everyone who listened to Elizabeth Holmes articulate what Theranos was about were falling over themselves to praise the brilliant work being done: Joe Biden, in his time as Vice President, Rupert Murdoch, Bill Clinton, the Walgreens, Betsy DeVos bought the lie, hook, line and sinker.

As expected, Ms. Holmes will spend a few years in prison, with privileges, of which, fellow inmates can only dream. And once she’s released, she gets to enjoy the billions that she’s made from selling a complete lie.
