The Washington Post has been in the eye of the storm for a few good days.

And this is due to the fact that its owner made the all-important decision not to endorse neither Kamala Harris nor Donald Trump, thus breaking with tradition.

In normal times, this might have flown under the radar, but these are crazy times, with mainstream Presidential candidates hosting campaign rallies in which racist views are openly made.

You would think that the extremity of the current situation would push the owner of the Washington post and its editorial board to nail its colours to the mast?

No.

But what Jeff Bezos’ actions tell us is the degree to which our societies have been compromised by the ultra-wealthy.

I use the pronoun ‘our’ because 21st century Britain does have the same problem too.

And what is this problem, I hear you ask?

The degree to which our political and economic discourse is shaped by billionaires.
