A new dawn has broken.

It is official.

It has now been confirmed. Ev Williams will be stepping back from his role as CEO of Medium.

Over the last decade, we have seen an experiment to create a platform dedicated to written word, in all of its glory, go global.

Presidents, politicians and major business leaders, deemed it fit to write in a space which has changed our lives in ways that we can only imagine.

Under Ev’s exceptionally visionary leadership, the Medium payment partnership was started in 2018 along with several publications run by those who were hired directly by executive management.

The payment partnership made those who had first dibs on Medium quite rich; it didn’t matter that they weren’t perfect writers or that they were learning as they went, they were rewarded for being at the right place at the right time.

But this wasn’t to last.

The algorithm which governed what was pushed to the fore and what wasn’t made it possible for new players to make a name for themselves; It would seem that this unseen hand reflected the changing tastes and times of this space.

Now why have I written this?
