Modern life is incredibly shit for most people at the best of times.

And at worst?

It leaves staring into the abyss, with little or no hope for a turnaround.

When the news broke that England Cricketer died, the outpouring of love and grief was near universal.

Nothing about the manner in which his demise was reported last week, left you with the impression that the man had taken his own life and yet this was exactly what happened.

His wife broke the news a few hours ago that the much loved former international had committed suicide and took the opportunity to encourage folks out there who are suffering to seek help.

And Mrs. Thorpe’s announcement highlights the greatest killer of men — suicide.

Given the way in which western societies are ordered, menfolk are never encouraged to talk about their emotional, psychological, spiritual and economic inadequacies.

And if you’re addicted to watching anti-heroes like James Bond, Don Draper and Bruce Wayne, you would think that their depiction on screen is the reality for all men.
