Halcyon Days of The Extreme Right: If Brexit and Trump Can Happen, Then Anything Is Possible…

And yes, it could mean the end of the western civilization, as we know it.

If your politics are to the extreme right of the political spectrum, these are truly the best of times.

Trump has been re-elected with a thumping majority in the House of Congress and Senate and the supreme court is in the hands of the Conservatives, too.

And here in the United Kingdom, Brexit is official policy.

For those of us on the left and center of the polity, we drank the Kool-Aid of the post-racial society to excess.

And for a minute, it seemed as though the ugliness of the past was truly consigned to the dustbin of history.

We saw the likes of Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack Obama, John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown and even David Cameron as voices of moderation and not the harbingers of the extreme politics which pervades the anglosphere today.

And only God knows how wrong we were.

The unravelling of Long Term Capital Management hedge fund in 1998 and the dot-com tech businesses in 2001, were clear signs that all wasn’t well with global finance and yet the adults in the room chose not to impose stringent regulations on…
