When I wrote an article a few days ago about my hatred of the Christianity and the church, it came from a place of profound anger at the critical mass of humanity, who are prepared to confer epistemic authority upon anything that came from the established church.

It came from a place of indignation at the continued exploitation of the poorest in our midst, who have been abandoned by the politicians and even more so by those meant to provide spiritual succor and respite from the everyday madness.

And It also came from a place of great inspiration.

This was from an Irish singer-songwriter by the name of Hoizier. Released in September 2013, Take me to church, was a song which was about the hypocrisy of the Catholic church as it was about love between two individuals, in a society shaped by homophobia and shame, of which religion has played an outsized role.

And I have taken the liberty of reproducing the lyrics below:

My lover’s got humor
She’s the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody’s disapproval
I should’ve worshiped her sooner
If the Heavens ever did speak
She’s the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
“We were born sick”, you heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes…
