I Hate My Gender…

And no, it isn’t race or culture specific.

Twitter was on top form a few weeks ago.

Everywhere you looked, there were misogynistic and violent Tweets directed at those who dared to put their heads above the parapet to criticize guys who had committed heinous crimes against women.

You had blokes defending soccer player — Benjamin Mendy, who was wrongly acquitted of rape (in my view) and another — Mason Greenwood — who was on the verge of being reintegrated into his soccer team — Manchester United — after damning evidence of his brutalizing his partner went viral on X, several months ago.

And yet, very little was been done by that platform in reining in, the appalling behaviour on display.

What we saw on Musk’s platform wasn’t a one-off; this malaise cuts across every strata in society.

For those with long memories on this side of the Atlantic, they will remember Wayne Coutzens, the erstwhile policeman who kidnapped, raped and murdered Sarah Everard in 2021.

What was instructive about that episode was that during the vigil held for the victim, scores of women were assaulted by the police.
