If The French Left Can Unite To Defeat The Far Right, Then So Can The British and American Left

My thoughts on November 2024…

Sunday’s exit polls across the English channel told its own story.

The French left, which until the last fortnight were an absolute shambles, found it within themselves to mount a solid resistance against the National Rally, which looked dead certain to win an absolute majority in parliament.

And the results were beyond extraordinary.

The coalition of the left, led by Jean Luc Melenchon, ensured that the far right were stopped in their tracks, which has completely changed the conversation.

Last week Thursday, we had the general elections in the United Kingdom, which all but consigned the Conservatives to the political wilderness for a generation.

While it is worthwhile to point out that four Greens, five anti-genocide candidates were returned to the British house of parliament, the numbers would have been so much higher had there been a much greater show of unity across board.

The schisms among the various parties of the left isn’t restricted to France, Germany and the United Kingdom, it is also a major problem in the United States of America too.
