Is Barack Obama’s Non-FBA Background The Reason For His Approach To Systemic Racism and Reparations?
Just asking….
Alan Keyes, the nutcase Republican politician, who squared off against Obama in senate race in 2004, once said that Obama’s background as the son of an African immigrant made it impossible for him to understand what it meant to be descended from West African Slaves. Needless to say that Keyes’ comments got under Obama’s skin and the debates between the two, showed a different side to Trump’s immediate predecessor.
Wendell P. Simpson, an African American friend, who lived in London in the mid noughties into the early 2010s, once said of the first Black President: ‘Obama is a Jackie Robinson, but he is no Willy Mays’.
In the eyes of African Americans of a certain generation, the Republican Jackie Robinson may have been the first Black guy to play major league baseball, but the real hero to millions of Black people was Willy Mays.
It suffices to say that those words struck a serious chord with me.
