Is Corporate Speak Destroying The English Language?

The reason for this article was brought about by reading Ev Williams article on the acquisition of projector.

In the penultimate paragraph of the post, he wrote the following:

Projector is an impressive, growing platform, but we do not plan to continue operating projector.com as a standalone service. It will continue to function through March of 2022, at which point we will be sunsetting the platform.

“Sunsetting the platform”, what on earth are you trying to say, Ev?

Couldn’t the dear owner of this space in which we function simply have said, come March 2022, we will shutdown the projector platform?

I do believe that corporate speak has done considerable damage to the use of English in public life.

Why, I hear you ask?

The Corporate speak posse, in a bid to cast itself as the good guy to the wider public, has created a entire industry of useless euphemisms.

These euphemisms, unfortunately, have found their way into public life and they have shaped the way we interact with other.

When you hear firms say that they will be embarking on a “ consultation exercise to be followed by corporate restructuring”, what…
