Is Medium Irrevocably Broken or Is It In Terminal Decline?

Which is it?

I read an article from one of the prominent players here complaining bitterly about the treatment that she’s received from the managers of this space.

She cited a few examples of her work not being given the due attention that she believes that it should have been.

Our protagonist then went on to use Substack as a point of comparison, stating that she gets nearly three times as much traffic there compared to here.

And as a coup de grace, she made it known that her departure from this space is imminent.

But she isn’t the only one to come out to attack our beloved platform so powerfully.

Some of you will remember that Tom Kuegler did viral piece about his gripe with Medium and the reasons why he is taking his talents elsewhere.

If it weren’t for Hogan Torah who eviscerated Kuegler in his riposte, I would have had no idea of who the chap was and what he stood for.

So what did I make of these posts?

I felt that they were a bit self-indulgent.

We all to varying degrees have our gripe with the system but it is near impossible to please hundreds of thousands of writers operating in this space.
