Is Medium’s Algorithm Culturally Biased or More To The Point — Racist?

Thinking out loud…

One article, two authors.

One with an ethnic name, and the other with an Anglo-Saxon name.

Both equally talented writers, with plenty of form on the leading issues of the day and yet, having vastly different outcomes, once their work’s published.

One goes viral with thousands of views and the other gets a few hundred at best.

Is this a coincidence or are there “ wider forces at play here”?

Given the frequency with which these disparities happen on this platform, I am forced to ask the question, if there is some sort of algorithmic cultural bias or even worse — racism — from our beloved space?

Back when I had my spat with the obnoxious septuagenarian, a few months ago, one of the things that she alluded to was my “ strange name”, which in that bigoted head of hers makes her think that she is somewhat superior to me.

It led me to ask, are the prejudices of the lady, microcosmic of Medium’s bias?
