Contrary to what Democrats and Republicans would have you think, America’s biggest enemy isn’t fundamentalist Islam.

Nor is it those hordes of Mexicans, who send their ‘worst’ people over to God’s own country.

And certainly not the People’s Republic of China, whose innovations in tech and global reach are seen as something of a threat.

Its biggest threat is from within its own polity.

America has failed Americans.

And it is much more complex than most think it is.

While the usual faultlines of race, class and religion loom large in the world’s largest economy, given its extraordinary history, it is also important to accord just as much attention and importance to economics and geography too.

Why I hear you ask?

Louisiana, culturally, has very little in common with Texas, and the state of Mississippi has very little in common with California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington.

Hawaii and Alaska have their unique histories and traditions, which is as extricated as it gets from what obtains territories which once belonged to the Spanish, French and the Mexicans.
