Isn’t The Notion of Having Favourite Books, Purely Nonsensical?

A very short essay on why I disregard posts about favourite books

I have never met anyone who has publicly admitted to having a favourite child. Even if they have one, it is something that they are more than likely to keep to themselves.

And rightly so.

Each child has qualities that the other doesn’t and any emotionally intelligent parent, however predisposed to a particular child, has to find a way of ensuring that the other children’s emotions are handled delicately and subtly, so as not to create lingering feelings of alienation and neglect.

God knows that psychologists from all over the world have their hands full dealing with grown adults still reeling from being deprived of attention and affection in their formative years.

Why have I brought this up?

The beautiful world of books is precisely why.

I find it difficult to fathom when people write about their favourite books and construct their reality around these in their articles.

Allow me to be provocative: It is a complete nonsense.

Why?

Our lives demand that we constantly improve ourselves and broaden our horizons, regardless of our jobs and everything…
