How one man rewrote the playbook of political campaigns

1992 was such an incredible year.

The world was coming to terms with the disintegration of Soviet Russia, and Britain was on the brink of a major economic upheaval, when George Soros speculated against the bank of England and won very handsomely.

And there was the dream team that competed at the Barcelona Olympics.

That you had Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Larry Bird,John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Dave Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, together on one team is something that you are highly unlikely ever to see in your lifetime.

And there was, of course, the irresistible, inexorable rise of a national politician from a political backwater in the deep south.

William Jefferson Clinton.

Clinton was a Democrat governor in the ultra conservative Arkansas for a number of years. When he failed in his re-election bid in 1980, he learnt a few harsh lessons, which he would help him tremendously in the years to come.

For some reason our hero decided against running in 1988, when everyone in the Democrat party thought that he would. This only meant that he would be much more prepared for 1992.
