Janelle Monae has come a very long way.

I am more than old enough to remember when she was all about her tuxedos and dance moves.

Even then she was extremely cool.

Tight rope was the one song which sealed my affection for this extravagantly talented artist and watching her life performance at Glastonbury was insanely mesmeric.

But if you’d said to me back then that she would execute the greatest transformation in pop culture since Hanna Montana became the sexy Miley Cyrus, I’d have called you a massive liar.

And yet she has.

Our heroine has ditched the tuxedos, the dance moves and the hair do to really do her and the results are absolutely jaw-dropping.

First it was the song Yoga, which featured Jidenna that offered a glimpse into the direction in which she was headed.

Then it was acting roles in Hidden Figures, Harriet and Glass Onions which captured a different side to this extraordinary individual.

But nothing prepared me for lipstick lover which was released yesterday.
