There can no misgivings regarding the power of the British media.

Their poisonous hold on public life has never been more keenly felt. The British tabloids have been quite exceptional in creating hate figures to sell vast copies of the trashy publications.

That The Sun lied about the people who perished in the Hillsborough disaster is largely forgotten to most but not to those who come from the North-West of England.

On the 15th of April 1989, the profound inadequacies of fan safety was laid bare when Liverpool FC played Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final. This accident led to 97 Liverpool fans dying at the Stadium.

The Sun newspapers chose to report an alternative account of the event. They wrote that the Liverpool fans were to blame for what safety breach that took place at Hillsborough. The paper wrote that the fans had urinated on the corpses and pickpocketed those who needed hospitalization.

It took 23 years for the British government to apologize for the failings of the police and the lies of The Sun newspaper.

You would think that this corrupt outfit would change its approach, given the outrageous lies that it has told…
