A tale of coups, internal and external
America’s chickens came home to roost spectacularly on the 6th of January 2021, when numbers of largely white militia laid siege to Capitol hill to demand that the election be overturned in Trump’s favour.
For millions of Americans, this was unlike anything that they had ever seen before.
But to those who knew their history, they readily recognized that this was a long time coming and this was nothing new; It was the habit that the United States of America had begun to cultivate in the aftermath of the second world war, when its position as the preeminent super power was fully enhanced and unchallenged.
And at the heart of regime change in countries that you have never heard of, was its version of the British secret service —The Central Intelligence Agency — known to the wider world as the CIA.
In Iran in the 1950s, the CIA collaborated with the Brits in overthrowing Mohammed Mossadegh, who had become sick of foreign powers exploiting its natural resources; British Petroleum, now known as BP, was in its original incarnation called Anglo-Persian oil- an outfit set up to take advantage of Iran’s oil deposits.
