The tragedy of the longest serving heir to the throne.

The news emerged yesterday that King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer.

We were told that the cancer was found, when the surgery to remove his enlarged prostate took place.

We have no idea what sort of cancer was discovered, and at what stage it currently is. All we have received are the usual vague messages, which the palace is quite exceptional at disseminating to the public.

And the timing of the news wasn’t exactly propitious for the royal family.

The first-in-line to the throne —Prince William — has had to scale back his public duties, owing to the fact that his wife had major abdominal surgery a few weeks ago.

With his father’s diagnosis, it is now expected that William will step into the breach and carry out public duties on behalf of the King.

So what happens next?

No one knows what the prognosis is.

And I don’t think that we will ever get that from the palace, judging by the communique which was issued, fifteen hours ago.
