King Charles, The Hypocrite?

If the new monarch is serious about saving the planet, he should renounce his privileges now.

In the last fortnight, I had written a number of pieces about Britain’s new king.

Of these, two are central to this article.

The very first was about the new monarch’s habit of wading into murky political waters. I cited examples of His Majesty shooting off letters to ministers of the crown on subjects close to his heart, his campaign to raise awareness on genetically modified foods, his close friendship with the Dalai Lama and not forgetting his pronouncements on modern architecture.

The second was about his unguarded comments to the now former premier — Liz Truss — regarding his surprise to see her so soon after having had a meeting with her. It was almost as though he had expressed a political opinion on her fate as the nation’s leader. Something that my colleague — Michelle Scorziello — pointed out would never have happened with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Despite his very public vow to stay out politics in the days following his mother’s passing, King Charles III reverted to type after only seven weeks in his new job.

And what exactly did he do?

Britain’s head of state announced yesterday that he would be convening a meeting of business leaders…
