Canada has a new leader.

And contrary to the idiot in charge to the south of its border or to the rebarbatives across the Atlantic, the new man does seem to know what he is doing.

And his name is Mark Carney.

To British audiences, our man needs no introduction, given his previous stint as the head of the bank of England under the previous Conservative regime.

And what’s extremely assuring about having Carney in charge is that he has been able to neutralize the trojan horse in the Canadian Conservative party — Pierre Poilievre.

Given the point to which Justin Trudeau had squandered the political capital handed to him by the Canadian people, over the last decade, the Liberal party looked certain to be destroyed at the next elections.

But that has since changed.

Right across the globe, there’s an overwhelming preponderance of knaves, genocidists and fascists, who are absolutely determined to bend the world to their will.

The checks and balances which were put in place to protect the system from the excesses of the elected representatives have been effectively destroyed by the bad-faith actors and their oligarch paymasters.

And what’s interesting about this development is that it isn’t only restricted to the leading countries of the Anglosphere — The United States and The United Kingdom; it is the reality of life in Poland, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina and wherever you may think of.

But Carney is the only world leader who understands the gravity of the mess and is prepared to take clear decisive steps.

While I am not naive about the man who once worked for the biggest investment bank in the world and was behind some of the most harmful economic policies in a generation, it is somewhat ironic that he represents the voice of reason at a time of great peril.

And it is to the title of the piece which we must return: Mark Carney is leading the charge for the grown-ups — but is it enough?
