Medium Owes Everything To Its Readers

I haven’t felt much like writing or reading lately. I went three days without posting any articles. Whether this is due to a writer’s block or a complete apathy, I really am not sure.

Checking my home page, articles from people whom I follow, have been building up for a few days, with several posts going unread.

And then, when I was on twitter yesterday morning, I saw a post by one of my huge favourites, Jessica Wildfire, bemoaning the low engagement of readers.

And then it hit me: you can write as much as you want to, but if your posts aren’t read, you are going nowhere.

Readers are everything.

If millions of people around the globe aren’t signed up to the business of reading posts on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Quora, Vocal, Newsbreak and Medium, however banal, ridiculous or compelling, then we wouldn’t be here.

To think that the existence of these multi billion dollar establishments is contingent on pairs of eyes fixed on screens for extended periods, is at once, exhilarating, humbling and terrifying!

Not one of these venerated names in this space or anywhere else would have any shred of credibility, if it…
