The bane of my life

On the 1st of December 1986, two days after my ninth birthday, while playing with a few friends, I slipped and landed on face with an almighty bang, chipping my front teeth in the process.

In the days following this incident, I had to contend with the very worst headache of my young existence.

And that was my introduction to the wonderful world of migraine.

At that time I had absolutely no idea that this affliction would become the bane of my adult life.

And so it has been, all through my teenage years, twenties and thirties and now forties, migraine has been right by my side.

Through the stresses of university to the amazing world of the office, my very dear friend has never for once chosen to leave me. The triggers aren’t always the same; In some cases it could be as a result of not having slept well or not eaten at the appropriate time or something else, migraine has never needed much of an invitation to be part of my life.

And on days when it hits, like it is, right now, I become completely useless. Totally unable to function and left pining for a dark room, where I can recover by shutting everyone and everything out.

Given the anal hypochondriac that I am, I was concerned that the headaches might be symptomatic of…
