The deregulation of capital markets.

The privatization of state owned companies.

Climate change emergencies.

The destruction of trade unions.

Deindustrialization.

The inexorable rise of techno-feudalism.

And what do these phenomena have in common?

Neoliberalism.

The very worst individuals among us — politicians —told us that government had become too big and the private sector was infinitely superior at running things.

We believed the lie and the last forty-five years have witnessed the most extreme redistribution of wealth (from humanity to the 1 percent) in the history of humankind.

Right across the Anglosphere, the script was the same: demonizing the unions as the enemies of change and progress while selling off state assets on the cheap to the capitalist class.

If the capitalist class had made improvements on the previously state owned assets, there would have been very few complaints; but what we have seen across board is the collective immiseration of the wider public.
