It is widely accepted that we live in profoundly patriarchal societies, in which men’s needs are elevated above women’s.

It is bad enough that men don’t take responsibility for their actions, but what’s worse is that the gender to which I belong thinks that it has the right to control what a woman does with her body.

And before you think that this is an American problem, you only have to look to what happened in the United Kingdom, when a serving police officer raped and killed a woman (Sarah Everard) walking home by herself in 2021.

What was also shocking about this particular case was the number of serving male officers who spoke on behalf of the perpetrator.

People will recall the spates of rapes and killings that took place a few years ago in India and protests which arose from it. China isn’t at all a progressive country where women’s rights are concerned.

Our extraordinarily egregious behaviour has also produced the likes of Boris Johnson and Nick Cannon, who have given new meaning to that world famous passage from the holy bible which says: Go forth and ye multiply
