My two cents..
Piers Morgan has the greatest hard on for Meghan Markle.
And everything he has said regarding the Duchess of Sussex does suggest that the hard on isn’t going any time soon.
It is pertinent to get that out of the way.
It should also come as no surprise to even the most stupid among us that Piers Morgan has great currency in the United Kingdom and the United States — nations built on whiteness and the privileges that come with it.
White privilege explains why a charlatan like him has had a very long career in the public sphere.
That he has used insider knowledge to earn a fortune, hacked into the phones of celebrities to publish stories and lied through his teeth has not proved impedimental in any way shape or form over the course of the last three decades.
And the privilege that he enjoys is precisely why he gets away with his petulant behaviour.
But we all shouldn’t forget that our man is a product of the British tabloid culture, which has always been about the following values: toxic masculinity, racism, jingoism, xenophobia and unreconstructed sexism.
And what’s important here is that these hallmarks have never gone away: the offices of the Sun…
