The extraordinary transformation of the errant royal.

No one knew what to do with Harry.

And that included his mother too.

The late Princess Diana famously referred to her younger son as the “spare” and for the very longest time his life was defined in relation to his older brother, whose destiny was mapped out the very day he was born.

And you could argue with a degree of credibility that given the tragic circumstances of his early life that he was treated with kid gloves by the baying British press and his immediate family.

And you also did get the impression that this pervasive sense of confusion from his parents and grandparents was at the heart of everything that the spare son did or said.

Why have I written this?

The license that Harry was given by everyone to act badly.

And God did he behave very badly.

The Duke of Sussex was exposed as being a cannabis user and this revelation forced his dad to send his son to a clinic to get clean.

During his tour of Afghanistan, Prince Harry was filmed using a racial slur (our Paki friend) to describe a serviceman of Asian descent.
