Despite rhetoric to the contrary.

The marriage between Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana was one of convenience.

Charles was under no illusion in being in love with the much younger woman and this was made quite plain in an interview, when he was asked if he was in love to which he replied :“ whatever in love means”.

You could argue with the great credibility that Charles’s lack of affection for his wife set the stage for everything else which took place during their turbulent union.

And it was the reason behind the numerous affairs by both players.

As I wrote in my previous article, royal affairs are nothing new. Through the various houses, ( Plantagenet, Tudor, Stuart, Hanover, Saxe-Coburg and Windsor) successive British monarchs were prolific philanderers.

But the difference with Charles and Diana was that the latter was arguably more prolific than the former.
