It seemed like a lifetime ago, when Harry and his older brother walked behind their mother’s coffin in what was one of the most powerful images ever shown on our television screens, back in September 1997.

It also does seem like a lifetime ago when William and Harry walked side by side, with the former playing the role of best man to the latter; most Brits were misty eyed at the footage of the siblings, wondering how proud their mother would have been, had she been alive to see them on that very special day.

Even I, the staunch republican, was quite moved by the sheer poignancy of the image of the young royals, walking into the church on that beautiful spring morning in 2018.

No sooner had the wedding of the century taken place between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle than we began hear rumblings of a rift between the brothers.

First it was something that Meghan said to the duchess of Cambridge that made her cry and then it was the coordinated attacks on the first non-white member of the royal household which left the duchess of Sussex feeling quite isolated.
