It is April 2024.

And there’s an imperial misadventure currently playing out in a place where most folks can’t point to on a map.

This time, the scene of the action is in the Middle East, with Israel doing its level best to draw in Iran, having blown up its embassy in Syria.

The United States of America, which serves as Israel’s paymaster, is watching with keen interest, not least because it has a stake in ensuring that the region’s super power ends up exactly like its neighbour — Iraq.

The attention generated from the escalation of the Gaza genocide has made it all too easy to forget that there’s another war for resources taking place in Europe, as I type.

To those who have already forgotten, I am referring to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Since the invasion began in February 2022, we have seen the world’s policeman play a proxy role by supplying the Ukrainians with weapons and intel to take on their mighty foes.

The Germans and French, who had long taken cheap Russian energy supply for granted, were left scampering for alternative arrangements in the early days of the war in Eurasia.
