Putin: The War Mongering, Land Grabbing Anti-Colonialist?

I am just as confused as you are…
I blame the new Italian Prime Minister for this.
In case you hadn’t noticed, Italy voted its first woman into power and perhaps more importantly, a player from its far right and a throwback to the 1930s, when Benito Mussolini was in charge.
In a speech that has now gone uber viral, we find Giorgia Meloni taking Emmanuel Macron and France to the cleaners for daring to describe her politics as “disgusting”.
While I enjoyed the speech and admit to having applauding her boldness to call out France’s never ending hypocrisy in keeping its ‘former colonies’ in never ending bondage, I am under no illusion as to why she was voted into power in the very first place: limit the immigration of folks from Africa, the Middle East and Asia into her country.
But clearly, Vladimir Putin must have been watching Meloni soak up all that applause and adulation for her speech that he thought that he could do the same: denounce the west for all of its shenanigans in the world and present himself as an ally to the African cause.
And this is exactly what he did.
In a speech delivered hours ago, the Russian bear evoked memories of the Korean and Vietnam wars; Hiroshima and Nagasaki; the Opium wars, Indian mutiny and very many painful episodes in recent history. And he found time to defecate on America’s fiat currency too.
It was viscerally anti-west. And it was made to draw in Africans.
Now this isn’t new in any way shape or form.
