Reading Is Incredibly Intoxicating But Writing is Revolutionary…

Reading is the very essence of my being.

Thanks to my fascist parents, they got me into books long before I could pronounce or write my name; it didn’t matter that I was quite hyperactive (still am) and had great difficulty sitting still, all you had to do was give me a book and I was sucked in completely.

This habit stayed with me through the vicissitudes of my early life; my father’s demise when I was 13; returning to the country of my birth not too long afterwards and having to grow up quickly, right through till this present day.

And I must say that it is a thing of great joy, that at my age (44), books turn me on in a very big way and really decent books get me quite high and intoxicated.

Why does this matter?

At precarious times like these, when the cost of living in Britain has all but made our lives a misery, I am highly appreciative of the fact that I can step into the British library to read all day or can walk into any of the marquee bookshops in central London, going through all the major titles across a number of subjects, without worrying about being hounded or harassed by the those put in charge of these establishments.
