Unless something extraordinarily dramatic happens on the fourth of July, Rishi Sunak’s political obituary will be written by every British newspaper and commentator on Friday morning.

But this sorry state of affairs isn’t entirely of his own making.

It has been in the making since 2010, when the Conservative led coalition made the political decision to strip wealth from some of the poorest folks in society.

Everything which followed from the austerity gave rise to Brexit, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

As I have stated in several pieces, the vote to leave the European Union was driven by the xenophobia and gullibility of the working class and real concerns regarding their economic fortunes.

The Conservatives who have always been driven by ruthless opportunism and pragmatism took full advantage of the anxieties of the British people for electoral gain and at the heart of this were players of colour — Priti Patel, Sajid Javid, Suella Braverman, Kemi Badenoch and James Cleverly.

Every one of the names listed above, absolutely had no problems in stoking deeply offensive takes and waging culture wars, knowing that…
