By this time, the poor woman had abandoned all hope of debating the finer points with me. When my mother arrived to retrieve me that day, I vaguely remember the teacher having a hushed confab with her in the hallway. I wasn’t privvy to the conversation, but the upshot was she asked that I not return to Bible class.
