Shaun King Is The Greatest Hero of Our Age

We need to start celebrating the profoundly exceptional people in our midst.

Yesterday, Gregory McMichael, his son, Travis and their neighbour William Bryan were convicted by the almost white jury for their broad daylight execution of Ahmaud Arbery in February 2020.

What’s interesting here wasn’t the extraordinary racism of the legal team, acting on behalf of the defendants nor their egregious attempts to remove every shred of humanity from the victim of the lynching but the concerted efforts by the district attorney of Glynn county — Jackie Johnson — to protect her friend, McMichael senior, who had worked as an investigator at her office for 20 years.

Jackie Johnson, who subsequently recused herself from the case had set the tone for the inertia from the police and her successors, which essentially meant that nothing happened for several weeks and for a while it seemed that Messrs. McMichaels and Bryan had got away with murdering an innocent jogger.

At least this was the situation until one profoundly exceptional man stepped into the fray.

His name?

Shaun King.
