It's funny that you should make the point that I have underlined. I write this because I read The Times newspaper article thrice on Merkel prior to publishing my post.

As regards the decision on Greece, I reckon it was the least worst option; Had it been allowed to leave the Euro, the repercussions would have been severe for all involved.

Britain coming off the ERM in 92 was very painful in the short term but highly beneficial in the long term for us.

As regards debt, the world is drowning in the stuff; America, Britain and Germany. Once this period of great difficulty passes, I believe that Germany will recover in a number of years.

Germany has overcome greater difficulties in its history.
