How many more lives need to be lost to gun violence?

Until the Last Dance documentary went out on Netflix in April 2020, I knew very little about Steve Kerr’s backstory.

His father was an academic who specialized in Middle East studies and lectured at the American university in Lebanon.

No one could have foreseen how things would unravel for the Kerr family who had spent considerable time in what used to be known as the Paris of the Middle East, when his father was brutally murdered by Shia Lebanese militia in 1983.

So if anyone’s qualified to speak on the extraordinary trauma of losing a loved one to gun violence, it is Steve Kerr.

And God did he speak powerfully.

The incredibly successful coach of the Golden State Warriors basketball team chose to break with convention in talking about his team’s impending game and instead addressed America’s perennial problems with gun control.

Steve Kerr spoke about the Black folks who were killed in Buffalo last week, the Asian church goers who were murdered and young children and teacher who were gunned down several hours ago.
