Student Protests Vs Military-Industrial Complex: There’s Only Going To Be One Winner
And what are we going to do about it?
Campuses across the west are agog with activity.
This activity is of the most unusual kind, with thousands protesting the actions of their government in propping up the Israeli government in Gaza and Raffah.
Students protests aren’t new.
It is a rite of passage thing for university students to call out the hypocrisy and mendacity of their elders.
In America during the 60s, the hot button subjects were civil rights and the war in Vietnam. Across the Atlantic, it was the Nigerian civil war which got young people hot and bothered.
In France, it was the Algerian war of independence, which took France to the very brink of anarchy. The former French prime minister — Charles de Gaulle —had to end his retirement, dissolve the fourth republic and ushered in a new constitution which is still in place in 2024.
The 1970s weren’t any different.
Women’s liberation movement gained quite a bit of momentum in the west, leading to substantive legislative changes on reproductive rights and the visibility of women in the workplace.
