The Big Brother Show and The issue of Social Engineering In Nigeria
Despite providing respite from the country’s myriad social-economic problems, are young Nigerians being conditioned to become more politically apathetic by this meaningless show?
Twenty-one years ago, the Big Brother show was launched in the United Kingdom. This was off the back of the pilot show in the Netherlands, which showcased a number of housemates living together and spending a huge amount of time shagging each other senseless. There was apparently a Swedish or Dutch contestant who still holds the record for the number of rounds of sex had in one day(six).
In the maiden British edition, there was Nick Bateman, the white middle class guy who would go on to achieve great notoriety; Melanie Hill, the preternaturally gorgeous mixed race female; Craig Phillips, the all round nice guy from Liverpool, Darren, the young Black guy from London, who at the age of twenty-two had three kids and Claire, who was a nun in her previous life. The rest of the cast members weren’t as memorable as the ones described above.
Over the course of the show, we were treated to Nick Bateman’s treachery, when he tried enlisting a few house mates on his scheme to cheat his way to victory, till he was called out by the eventual winner — Craig Phillips; Melanie Hill, whose hot massages which got another…
