The English version of the “American culture wars”

It’s a bit difficult to say when the British version of the “ American culture wars” started. Actually I tell a big lie. Rewind to May 2020, when riots exploded all over America, in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd. It felt as though, this was unlike the other killings captured on a smart phone. (By this, I am referring to those of Eric Gardner and Philando Castile, whose deaths led to riots but far little change). With George Floyd, It seemed that something of a paradigm shift in the mass psychology of White America was taking place, right before our very eyes.

Across the Atlantic, much closer to home, Bristolians(Natives of Bristol, England) took the streets and literally took matters to hand, when they toppled the statue of Edward Colston, a famous native of the city, whose huge fortune was made from trading Africans.

Perhaps frightened by the prospect of vast numbers of Black people taking to the streets of London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool to unleash their pent up fury on…
